Lake Mills Tax Abatement

Assume your new home in Lake Mills would have an assessed value of over $80,000. Here's the benefits these programs have to offer you:

Lake Mills Tax Abatement
The taxes are abated on the first $80,000 for five years.

Towards the purchase of a lot. Funds come from tonnage fees at the local landfill. This is not tax dollars!

Winnebago County Housing Trust

Single Family

    Eligibility:
  • New Construction only-additions or improvement projects DO NOT qualify.
  • Only the home owner(s) may apply for the home they purchase or construct.
  • Multi-family projects are NOT eligible.
  • Incentive is square footage based:
    • Up to 900 square feet - $3,000
    • 900 to 1200 square feet - $4,000
    • Over 1200 square feet - $5,000
  • All forms of housing that are subject to property tax:
    • Traditional "stick built" construction
    • Modular homes
    • Manufactured homes

    Incentive:
    $3,000, $4,000, or $5,000 forgivable loan (payments made by square footage)

    Application Procedure:
  • Complete application at beginning of construction.
  • Recieve loan proceeds when the county assessor figures the gross living area, typically when the home is completed or the assessment is done.
  • Sign the forgivable loan document when you pick up the check.
