Lake Mills has excellent municipal utility services for all its
residential, business, and industrial users. All city streets are
paved, including curbs and gutters.
Power:
- Lake Mills is served by its own Municipal Power System with
interconnection with Alliant Utilities in Madison, WI.
- Generation capacity of municipal system is 18,900 KW with diesel
engines and 69,000 KW interconnection capability with Alliant
Utilities.
- Present peak load is 8,400 KW.
Water:
- The Lake Mills Municipal Water Works has two wells supplying
water from the Maquoketa creviced limestone formation 450' under
the service.
- The two wells have a total pumping capacity of 1,400 gallons
per minute.
- Water is stored in two overhead towers with a capacity of 750,000
gallons and an underground storage tank with a 150,000 gallon
capacity.
- Two treatment plants provide iron removal and chlorination.
Sanitation:
- Lake Mills Sanitation Department operates a 22-acre aerated
pond with a storage capacity of 28,700,000.
- The plant has capability of treating 625,000 gallons per day.
Average load is 300,000 gallons per day.
Natural Gas:
Natural gas is supplied by Aquila. Gas is available to all the Lake
Mills industrial areas as well as the city's residential users.
Telephone Sevice:
WCTA, a member-owned cooperative serving northern Iowa and southern
Minnesota, provides communication services to the Lake Mills community.
WCTA provides local and log distance telephone service using state-of-the-art
digital equipment. advanced calling features such as Caller ID,
Voice Mail, and Telemarketer Call Screening are available as well.
WCTA is also the area's leading Internet Service Provider, providing
high-spped and dial-up Internet service, web hosting, and other
internet related services.
Residents are also able to enjoy the latest digital TV services,
